It was me who taught to set love aflame with poetry.
It was me
Who cut the lines of those burning palms
And turned the water in the eyes into a remedy
It was me who irrigated with poems the mountains to absolve them
I came gushing, the river was my direction
And I filled it with rubble.
I cursed the shade of the palm tree when I lost it
I killed the darkness
My horses cried, exhausted by the travel
Now my poetry is pure.
And without pigment to burden the main line
Now I proclaim my state!
My nation, emptied of rivers,
Free of lies.
Now I rule with the madness of rationality.
I am not that type of buyer.
I am the purveyor of a dreamland
And now I proclaim my nation.

أتعودُ حرفاً ذابلاً
بين السطورِ
فتنمحي هذي الوريقاتِ
هنا؟
لا سيدي
فالموت للسجانِ
لستُ بميتٍ
فأنا امتداد السالكين
مدارجُ العشقِ الأبيّ
وأنا امرؤ القيسِ المطَالبُ بالدمِ
أنا سيفُ عنتر شقَّ خبثَ الخيمةِ
وأنا المهلهلُ إن أردتم عزةً
من علَّم الشعرَ احتراقاتِ الهوى
كنتُ أنا
من شقَّ في كفِّ الحنين خطوطَهُ
وأحال ماءَ المقلتين دواءَها
وسقى الجبالَ براءةً وقصائداً
وأتيتُ نهراً كان يوماً قبلتي
فردمتهُ
ولعنتُ ظلَّ النخلِ حين فقدتُهُ
ونحرتُ عمراً كان يلبسُ أسوداً
فبكت خيولي المرهقاتُ من السَّفر
الآن شِعري ناصعٌ
وبلا خضابٍ يرهقُ السطرَ الأصيلَ
الآن أعلنُ دولتي
وطني خلا من أنهرٍ
تأوي الكذب
الآن أحكم بالجنون العاقل
أنا لستُ ذاك المشتري
أنا بائعّ وطن الهوى
فالآن أعلن دولتي
