so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.

I lost my mother s watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses went.

ليسَ صَعباً أن تُتقِنَ فنُّ الفَقْد.
ثمّة الكثير من الأشياء تبدو مُترعة بنيّةِ الفَقْد
حدّ أن خُسرانَها لا يُشكّلُ كارثة.
افقِدْ شيئاً كلّ يوم ولا تكترث:
تقبّلْ حَيرة فقدان مفاتيحِ الأبوابِ،
وساعة من الزمن تذهبُ سُدى.
فليسَ صَعباً أن تُتقِنَ فنّ الفَقْد.
ثُمّ تمرَّنْ على مزيدٍ من الفَقْد، وبأسرع من ذي قبل:
لأماكنَ وأسماء، ووجهاتِ كنتَ تنوي السفر إليها.
ولن يُشكل أي منها كارثة.
فقدْتُ ساعةَ أمّي. وأنظرْ! ضاع مني البيتُ الأخيرُ،
أو ما قبلَ الأخيرِ، من ثلاثة بيوتٍ أحببتُها.
ليسَ صَعباً أن تُتقِنَ فنّ الفَقْد.
فقدْتُ مدينتينِ، أثيرتين على قلبي.
وفقدْتُ عوالمَ أكثر اتساعاً كانت بحوزتي:
نهرينِ وقارّة.
لكم أفتقِدُهن! وليس الأمرُ بكارثة.
حتى فقدك أنت (بصوتك المازِح، ولفتاتك التي أُحِب)،
وما كنتُ لأكذب. واضح تماماً
ليسَ صَعباً أن تُتقِنَ فنُّ الفَقْد،
مع أنه يبدو…(اكتُبيها!) شبيهاً بالكارثة.
