About Adila
I am Adila from Gaza, written by Mabel Encinas-Sanchez and beautifully illustrated by Fiona Zechmeister, was recently published by the independent publisher Victorina Press (https://www.victorinapress.com). This is a book of loss and great hope. The book focuses on Adila’s everyday experiences. She is a five-year old girl who goes to school, plays with friends, goes to the market and loves Muhallabiyya. Granny cooks for them and takes care of her, her cousin and her baby brother, while her parents and older brother work hard to make the children’s life happy. Nevertheless, Adila is aware, at her age level, of Nakba and of her family’s worries about the current situation. When she sleeps, Adila dreams and wishes for a better world. The pictures are full of symbolism, including a dove that comes to earth to pick up an olive branch. This is a story that acknowledges the experiences of the children in Gaza, where all children from three to eight years old in multicultural Britain and the English-speaking world can feel identified.
أنا عديلة من غزة
كتاب من تأليف مابيل أنثيناس-سانتشيس وتصميم فيونا زيكمايستر وقد نُشر مؤخراً من قبل دار النشر المستقلة ڤكتوريا پرس. كتاب عن الفقدان والألم الكبيرين. يدور حول حياة عديلة اليومية. عديلة ذات الخمس سنوات تذهب لمدرستها يومياً تلعب مع صديقاتها. واذهب الى السرق. تحب المهلبية. ترعاها الجدة مع اخوتها وابناء عمومتها الصغار بينما يعمل اَهلها وإخوتها الكبار من أجل إسعاد الأطفال. ومع هذا، فعديلة، بعمرها الغض الصغير، تعي النكبة وقلق أهلها من الوضع الراهن. تحلم حين تنام بعالمٍ أفضل. تعبر الصور عن الرمزية كما في صورة الحمامة التي تلتقط غصن الزيتون. هذه القصة تعبّر عمّا يعانيه أطفال غزّة الذين يتراوح أعمارهم ما بين الثلاث والثمان سنوات حيث يعيش أطفال مثلهم وقد تتشابه خبراتهم في بريطانيا ذات الثقافات المتعددة ويتحدثون بلغة إنگليزية واحدة.
