The book “Sketches of Morocco by Khalid Al-Jadir” is a new publication of art by the renowned Iraqi artist Khalid Al-Jadir (1924-1988), authored by his brother Saad Al-Jadir, produced by his niece, Dr. Sahar Al-Mahdawi, and published in 2023 by Mark Pook Publishing. It is a paperback book of 81 A4-sized pages, containing 6 pages of English text, 5 pages of Arabic text, and 70 pages of illustrations (64 black and white sketches and 6 coloured images of artistic plates). This book depicts scenes from Morocco; the towns and villages that the artist visited and the people that he met during his residence in Rabat from 1980 to 1988.
Khalid Al-Jadir is one of the most important pioneers and drafters of the history of Iraqi art in the twentieth century, and he has produced an outstanding number of sketches and paintings at Iraqi, Arab and international levels. Just as Khalid Al-Jadir loved Iraq and its ancient and Islamic cultures, he also loved Morocco with its nature, its antiquities, its traditional artistic industries, and the costumes of its people. Therefore, he set out to paint in Moroccan cities, villages, archaeological sites, and its popular environment in its markets, alleys, shrines, and squares and the mountains, and shores of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Khaled Al-Jadir was born in 1924 in the city of Baghdad. After obtaining a law degree and a diploma in art from the university of Baghdad, he obtained a scholarship in 1948 to study painting at the “Beaux Arts” in Paris. He then presented his dissertation thesis on the history of Islamic art at the University of Lille and obtained a doctorate in literature with honours. He returned to Baghdad after five years and taught painting and art history at Queen Alia College, then was appointed Dean of the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad. Dr. Khaled Al-Jadir also worked outside Iraq, as a professor of History in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and he also taught the subject of Arab and Islamic civilization at the Higher Institute of Journalism in Rabat, Morocco.
The collection of his artworks in Morocco is considered to be one of his most important works in terms of the distinction and focus of their fine art value and their expressive effect. These works reflected the realities of life in various parts of Morocco and expressed, with their aesthetic values, the psychology of the Moroccan people in heterogeneous environments, including the desert, the beaches of the sea and the ocean, the large cities, the small villages in the countryside with their agricultural climate, and in the Moroccan markets that the artist painted in his expressive style that captures the symbolic glimpses with distinguished technical and creative ability.
Khaled Al-Jadir died aged 64 in Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in December 1988, and his body was transferred to Baghdad, where his colleagues, friends, students, and lovers of his art received him with great respect and appreciation.

هذا الكتاب “المغرب في تخطيطات خالد الجادر” هو طبعة فنية جديدة لتخطيطات الفنان العراقي الرائد خالد الجادر (1924-1988)، 
من تأليف شقيقه سعد الجادر، وجمع واعداد طباعته من قبل ابنة أخته سحر المهداوي في لندن، 2023 Mark Pook Publishing.
يتكوّن الكتاب من 81 صفحة، ويحتوي على ستة صفحات باللغة الانكليزية وخمسة صفحات باللغة العربية. في الكتاب 70 صفحة من التخطيطات (64 تخطيط بالأسود والابيض و6 تخطيطات ملونة برسم على الصحون). تتضمن التخطيطات مناظرمن المغرب بمدنه وقراه، أماكن زارها الفنان في فترة معيشته هناك بين 1980-1988.
يُعتبر خالد الجادر أحد أهم روّاد وصاغة تاريخ الفن العراقي في القرن العشرين بإبداعٍ لا حدود له عبر لوحاتٍ تخطيطية فذّة عراقياً وعربياً وعالمياً.
وكما احبّ خالد الجادر العراق وثقافاته القديمة والإسلامية، وسافر يرسم في ربوعه من الشمال الى الجنوب، فقد أحبّ المغرب بطبيعته وآثاره وصناعاته التقليدية الفنية وأزياء أهله، فانطلق يرسم في مدنه وقراه ومواقعه الأثرية وبيئته الشعبية في أسواقه وأزقته وأضرحته وساحاته في طنجة وتطوان وأصيلة والقصر الكبير والصويرة والجديدة وفاس ومكناس وأزيلال وأزرو وخنيفرة وسلا والرباط والقنيطرة ومراكش وورزازات، وعشرات القرى والمستوطنات الواقعة على الطرق بين هذه المدن، مما هو في الصحراء والبادية والجبال وعلى شواطئ البحر المتوسط والمحيط الأطلسي.
ولد خالد الجادر في بغداد سنة 1924 وحصل على شهادة الحقوق من جامعة بغداد وكذلك حصل على دبلوم في فن الرسم قبيل إرساله في بعثة الي باريس سنة 1948 ليدرس فن الرسم في البوزار ثم شهادة الدكتوراه في الفن الإسلامي من جامعة ليل.
رجع خالد الجادر إلى بغداد بعد خمسة سنوات ودرس فن وتاريخ الرسم في كلية الملكة عالية وبعد ذلك عين عميدا لأكاديمية الفنون الجميلة حين تأسيسها سنة 1961.
أسس جمعية الفنانين العراقيين واُنتخب رئيساً لها لعدة فترات.
عمل الفنان خارج العراق أيضاً فكان أستاذا للتاريخ في كلية الاداب بجامعة الرياض في المملكة العربية السعودية، وقام بتدريس مادة الحضارة العربية والإسلامية في المعهد العالي للصحافة في الرباط.
تُعتبر مجموعة أعماله الفنية التي أنجزها في المغرب من أهم أعماله من حيث تميّزها والتركيز فيها على القيمة التشكيلية من منطلق وظيفتها التعبيرية، وعكست هذه الأعمال الحقائق الحياتية في مختلف انحاء المملكة المغربية وعبّرت بقيمها الجمالية عن نفسية الشعب المغربي في بيئاته المتغايرة والتي تختلف اختلاف الطبيعة في البادية والصحراء وعلى شواطيء البحر والمحيط وفي المدن الكبيرة أو في القرى الصغيرة في الريف ومناخه الزراعي وفي الأسواق المغربية التي رسمها الفنان باسلوبه التعبيري الذي يلقط اللمحات الرامزة والسانحات المعبرة باقتدار تقني وإبداعي متميز.
توفي خالد الجادر في الرياض في المملكة العربية السعودية في ديسمبر عام 1988، ونقل جثمانه إلى بغداد حيث استقبله زملاؤه وأصدقاؤه وتلاميذه ومحبوا فنّه بالكثير من الإجلال والتقدير.
