I’ll make a friend out of rock
For why not?
And render time its enemy
Has it not perceived the stillness?
Has it not been subdued by stagnation?
Nay, has it not been relieved from the vicissitudes of time?
I’ll make a friend out of rock
Its tender pores cause no wounds
Its diaphanous gashes do not chafe
A wolf that devours me it will not metamorphose to
Nor a serpent that envenomates me
Not a fly that vexes me
And nor a “human” that ambushes me
It will remain a rock...
quieting the ache within my soul
It will remain a rock…
A constant presence…
سأتخذُ من الحَجَر رفيقاً
ولِمَ لا؟
والدهرُ له عدوٌّ
ألَم يَعْيَ من السكون؟
ألَمْ يَخْمِد من الركود؟
بَل، ألَمْ يتَعرَّ من الصُرُوف؟
سأتخذُ من الحجرِ رفيقاً
رقّةُ مَسَامِهِ لا تُجرِّح
شفافية جُرحِهِ لا تُقرِّح
لن يتحوَّل ذئباً يفترسني
ولا ثعباناً يلدغني
ولا ذُباباً يُخرشني
ولا «إنساناً» يُباغتني
سيظلُّ حجراً.. يَردِم
سيظلُّ حجراً..
