Synopsis:
This poem explores the meaning of friendship.
Western logic stresses the extremes of the pendulum
yes or no
on or off
friend or foe
‘Yes’, strong affirmation or enthusiastic agreement
‘No’, gentle decline or firm refusal
Both could offer certainty
But life is not in binaries
We also have the ‘yes and no’, the perhaps,
the it-depends, the to-some-extent
A switch can dim the light
as a swirl changes positions in three hundred and sixty degrees
Claiming friendship is not a verbal statement
but a practice of care

هو كالبندول
نعم أو لا
صح أم خطأ
صديق أو عدوّ
“نعم”. تأكيدٌ راسخ أو اتفاق تحمّسي
“لا”. تجنّبٌ لطيف أو رفضٌ بات
كلاهما قد يَعرِضُ يقيناً ما

لا ثنائيات في الحياة
فيها الـ”نعم” والـ”لا”، وفيها الـربّما
و.. قد تعتمد، ثمّ إلى حدّ ما!

مفتاح الكهرباء يُخفِت النور
كما الدوّامة وهي تلفّ حتى الثلاثمائة وستّون درجة

إدعاء الصداقة لا يؤخذُ بتصريحٍ رسميّ
بلّ باهتمامٍ ورُقيّ
